An almost real life Albuquerque, NM, in which Darvin Carpenter, and his family, friends, and acquaintances live and work. If you visit Albuquerque, you'll be able to find ALMOST every place that appears in the Carpenter universe. However, there are differences. :)
Darvin is a PI, and most of the Carpenter universe stories involve him as the narrator. However, some stories only peripherally bring him in, or not at all - but they take place in his Albuquerque.
Darvin Carpenter reluctantly returns to Red Hawk, OK, where he was once a cop, to serve for a year as the chief of police - and winds up dealing with the first murder the town has had in years.
This is actually the second Carpenter novel, but it's the first which is available for me to post. This is the first visit of the Carpenters to Red Hawk since Darvin left Red Hawk back in the 80s. It ties in with a short story called "Ghost," which I'm also posting so you can get the background of this novel. Also, because of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from The Chief, I'll be posting more chapters at a time. :)
One of Darvin's friends apparently commits suicide, but Darvin knows it was murder. Proving it, though, becomes an obsession which threatens his marriage.
When on their yearly vacation to Lanfair Valley in California's Mojave Desert, the Carpenters find a dessicated body. Like it or not, they're involved in the investigation.
A man hires Darvin Carpenter to find his daughter, who's been missing for years and he's tracked to Albuquerque. But it turns out that his daughter goes to church with Darvin - and ran away from home because her father was raping her. This carries on the story of *Flower In the Wind* - see my newest blog post and that story for more info.
Alan McGee decides to take part in his church's program of witnessing to prostitutes - and runs into a friend from his childhood working the street in Albuquerque. This is a retelling of the Biblical story of Hosea and Gomer, but takes place in the Carpenter universe and connects to the Carpenter story *Angels' Hands*. Unlike the Carpenter Stories this is definitely Christian fiction. See my blog post of 23JAN12 for more info. :)
