Robinson Crusoe, born in York, is the third son in his family. His parents wish to make a lawyer out of young Crusoe, but he has other plans. His one great desire is to become a sailor and go to sea. Although almost all of his initial forays into sea life are disastrous, Crusoe is not deterred. The novel is basically about his life and adventures on some island, where he lives for the next twenty-eight years...

Franklin wrote this humorous response to a call for scientific papers from the Royal Academy of Brussels while United States ambassador to France around 1781. He was also a respected scientist at the time. It was never sent (so as not to raise a stink) but was included in a letter to a friend.

A might convoluted, but is that not so in life.

Keep in mind this story may be dated, err maybe not though. There is still a bit of a 'sticky wicket' between the Middle East and others.
