Set in 1547, it's the story of two boys who are identical in appearance: Tom Canty, a pauper who lives in Offal Court in London; and Prince Edward, son of King Henry VIII. Tom Canty and Prince Edward,meet, and as a jest, switch clothes. The Prince leaves the palace and fares poorly in London, Meanwhile the court and the King insist that Tom is the true prince gone mad. After the death of the King, Edward interrupts Tom's coronation and the boys explain, and Edward is crowned King of England
