Chapter 13

Janice

I am glad Jeff suggested I go with the girls. Major Alice Winsford the S-1 Officer tried to give them and me a ration of fecal material. She did not like the handwritten orders from Robert. She yelled that only typed orders were acceptable. She said people in her unit would not go anywhere without properly typed endorsed orders. I called Tim and he and Art were there in Fifteen minutes with their typed orders.

Tim talked with the unit XO who on reading the original handwritten orders apologized to Tim and said he would manage the problem at his level if that was acceptable. Tim replied it was. He turned to the Stryker crews and said all of you get your gear, you will not be returning to this unit. The transfer of all your personal weapons, the vehicle, the vehicle weapons, and all vehicle equipment are in these orders, to which the XO nodded in agreement.

Fifteen minutes later we loaded all our gear and were on our way to the Longhouse. Lillian told me the Major had always been a pain even to the point of having people in the S-1 sign for pens and conduct random inventory inspections to ensure you had only what she issued to you and would assign extra duty to those who did not have the correct amount on hand.

1715 Monday 23 January Robert

Brigadier General Carter, I need to speak with you for a moment. As we stepped into my office Ray, I was not pleased with the way Major Alice Winsford treated the people that I ordered transferred to my NY Reserve Unit Command. Major Winsford has shown poor judgment and I do not trust her to manage the Command of a Patrol Unit. If you have assigned her to a Patrol, remove her from the patrol list. If you have not yet assigned her, do not. If she requests an assignment, you will deny it.

I am going to protect them this evening, and at dinner I am going to give them Field Commission.

The work I am asking them to do is verry important to me. They will be the security, protection, and control for my wife Kariwase and our Nations Mother Mrs. Ruth. I will not have their safety jeopardized by a stupid/ambitious Major who needs to flex her power.

BGen Carter

I heard of the incident, and I am personally placing a special must reply to in writing letter in her file. I will endorse the Field Commissions; What will their ranks be?

Robert

Sargent Lester Miller and Sargent Lillian Oaks Captains in the New York National Guard.

Corporal Maybell Starks, Corporal Herald Tiller, Corporals Lela Downs, and Corporals Shenna Wright 1st Lieutenants in the New York National Guard. They will continue as the transport teams for K and Mrs. Ruth but do it as Officers. They will have special orders in writing to take no orders from anyone below the rank of BGen or from my Command Staff.

BGen Carter

I will also indorse these orders and have them laminated for them to carry. I will also issue the orders as part of my POD to insure all the Officers and Enlisted Personal understand the scope of them.

Now I saw the way you did the ones on Friday night. I assume it will be along the same plan. I would request that my CSM and I manage all the paperwork and notification. I will give your PR man the family contact information. DOR today Precedent Numbers: Captains Miller #1, Oaks #2. 1st Lieutenants Starkes #1, Tiller #2, Downs #3, and Wright #4 which is their current pecking order.

I know the current Officer Detailer for the New York National Guard and she owes me a huge favor; you will have the Commission in your hand for signature by 1900.

Robert

Thank-You Ray, now let me get my people on their part before our staff meeting. Tim, find me K and Mrs. Ruth, please. Tim replied they will be here in just a moment I already called them.

K and Mrs. Ruth arrived, and Tim walked out and closed the door, but I could see him standing in front of it to block entry. I started; I heard about the treatment your transport teams received today and am correcting it at dinner. After I finished explaining my actions, Mrs. Ruth said, I will call the parents and have One of their uniform coats minus Chevrons ready for them. I will pin on the Ranks for my team and expect K to do hers. The orders will go a long way to Aid us in our mission. We already have them at Level II pay and benefits.

K replied Thank-you Robert, I knew you would find a way to free them from the restrictions that various Officers and Senior Enlisted were trying to get them to comply with. The Major was not the only One but there were people, Senior Enlisted, who were following her cue to harass them and make their jobs more difficult.

Mrs. Ruth Upstairs in the Butler Pantry

Raleigh I am going to ask that you hold dinner for Fifteen Minutes tonight. Robert is Commissioning our Six new young people in the New York National Guard to protect them and allow them the freedom to serve K and I better.

I will also request that the Valet and Maids take a Service A Uniform Coat from each of their uniform possessions and bring them to the seamstress to remove the Chevrons and other Enlisted items and have them pressed before dinner this evening. We will have their Valet and Maids in attendance and to assist in the Commissioning.

Raleigh

Verry good Dowager I will address it right away. I am also pleased that MGen has put a stop to the nonsense that there are people of rank who think they can get away with.

Mrs. Ruth

Thank-You Raleigh, you are a credit to our house. He replied Verry Good Dowager I will get the Valet, Maids, and seamstress started on the uniforms. He departed calling for his Under Buttler.

I called for Danial Larson on my radio and asked him to join me in Roberts Office. He arrived in minutes. He showed up with one of his Broadcasting Engineers, and asked the names of the people Robert is going to Commission this time and to what Ranks he will make the newest One-day wonders. I replied: DOR today. Precedent Numbers: Captains Miller #1, Oaks #2. 1st Lieutenants Starkes #1, Tiller #2, Downs #3, and Wright #4.

You will have the family contact number right after the Staff Meeting. Please ask the parents not to inform the people in advance of dinner.

I added, do not forget you are one of those One Day wonders yourself.

Danial

Yes mam, they sit at table #4 currently. Mrs. Ruth replied Yes, but Robert is adding them to the service teams after the emergency is over so I will be reassigning everyone after the promotions. For now, table #4 it is, and their Valet and Maids will be assisting K and I with the Commission.

Lillian

I never had assistance in dressing in a Service A Uniform before. The Housekeeper even sent an extra Maids so each of us girls had their own Maid helping them dressing and a hairdresser also to touch up our hair. I do have to say that my uniform did look sharp. This was not my Inspection Uniform, but my Maid had done my ribbons and badges so I could pass an IG Inspection.

At Twenty minutes till dinner Sargent Miller knocked on my door and asked if we were ready.

Yes, I replied and opened the door to walk out. We got to the elevator and the rest of our floor mates had a snicker and had that look, I know something that you do not know look and then allowed us to go down First.

Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Ruth met us. They reminded Lester and Herald to pull out our chairs for us and seat us before seating themselves. They remembered that and had even taken time to practice with us after we finished our run this morning.
